Homogeneous healing technique in preform manufacturing

Abstract

This paper presents a new method of heating quartz in fiber manufacturing which utilizes the almost homogeneous absorption of microwaves in this material. Initial experiments aimed at substituting the traditional H2/O2 burner in the modified chemical vapor deposition (MCVD) process are reported.
