Abstract

Fiberscopes using silica image fibers are now widely used for various kinds of visual monitoring in industrial fields. Although a silica image fiber with 105 picture elements, which exceeds the number of picture elements in conventional fiber bundles, has already been developed,1 new applications require higher resolution without reduction in the flexibility of the image fiber. For this purpose we have developed an image fiber with 250,000 picture elements by using high-N.A. silicate glass material.
