Abstract

Long-haul lightwave systems are being developed for ever increasing transmission speeds. At this writing research is being performed at line rates exceeding 8Gb/s[1] The demands for high capacity systems have made fiber optic systems operating in the 500 Mb/s range common place in the local and national transmission networks.
