Abstract

There is interest in shifting the wavelength for zero dispersion in single-mode fibers into the 1.55-μm transmission window so that the lowest loss and zero dispersion can be achieved simultaneously. Step-index and graded-index designs have been reported,1,2 but these require high levels of germania in the core, which leads to increased loss, and the graded-index design can be sensitive to microbending loss.
