Abstract
With the availability of sources and detectors in the 1550-nm window, dispersion-shifted fibers in conjunction with conventional laser diodes can become attractive alternates for high-bit-rate long- repeater-spacing telecommunication systems. Various designs, including fibers with triangular index1 and segmented-core2 profiles, have been considered for this application.
