Abstract

High-bit-rate long-distance lightwave transmission experiments are reported employing single-longitudinal-mode DFB lasers and Ge APD receivers. Over nondispersion-shifted fiber, distances of 120 km at 1 Gbit/sec and 65 km at 1.8 Gbit/sec were achieved.
