Abstract

Quadruple cladding (QC) single-mode fibers1 are designed to provide low loss and low dispersion over an extended wavelength range. We used the low- pressure PCVD process2 for preparation of this Interesting type of fiber. In Fig. 1 a tomographic representation of the refractive-index profile of a PCVD preform with matched QC design demonstrates the high accuracy of profiling with PCVD. In Fig. 1 a comparison of the preform profile and the measured refracted near-field profile of the corresponding fiber Is also given.
