Abstract

High-fiber-count high-density cables are necessary to construct a practical optical subscriber loop. Various kinds of high-density fiber unit have been investigated. A rapid measurement system is required to evaluate transmission characteristics for high-fiber-count cables. This paper describes a new technique for the simultaneous measurement of multifiber optical losses. This technique introduces a large reduction in measurement time and is quite suitable for outdoor use in view of operation ease and high stability.
