Optical filters for wavelength division multiplexing

Abstract

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) provides a means for increasing optical communications system bandwidth with a minimum increase in the number of components. Using WDM, several in- dependent channels may be run simultaneously over one fiber link. This eliminates the need to lay multiple fibers.
