Optimized single-mode tapped tee data bus

Abstract

Here we report on the design and implementation of an optimized 15-terminal 13-coupler tapped tee data bus. The system uses newly developed low loss biconically tapered fused fiber couplers, commercially available fiber pigtailed laser diode sources complete with 1-GHz bandwidth modulation drivers and high speed Si-APD photodetectors. A measured worst-case system loss of 33.3 dB compares well with a theoretical system loss of 31.5 dB.
