Abstract

Optical fiber transmission systems are expected to have wide application owing to the remarkable advantages of optical fiber cables. The introduction of high-speed optical transmission systems into long-haul trunk lines is quite attractive from the viewpoint of economy and network digitalization. This paper describes the present state of the single-mode system and the feasibility of single-mode fiber application to Gbit/sec transmission systems.
