Abstract

A constricted double-heterojunction injection laser has been incorporated within a Fox-Smith interterometric cavity1 which exhibits single-longitudinal-mode emission with substantial linewidth narrowing. Figure 1 shows the configuration employed; one laser facet was coated for high reflectivity and comprised one of three cavity mirrors. The other facet was coated for low reflectivity, and lasing characteristics were in fact dominated by two mirrors, M2 and M3, of the external cavity.
