Abstract

There has been considerable interest in the generation of picosecond optical pulses1-9 with modulated semiconductor diode lasers. However, most work reported so far is limited to a relatively small range of modulation parameters. In this paper the modulation behavior of injection laser diodes will be reported in detail. The many interesting pulsation behaviors are clearly shown as a broadening of the laser threshold transition zone under a modulated driving condition.
