Abstract

As repeater spacing in lightguide systems increases, the need exists for long lengths of fiber proof-tested to high levels. The availability of such long fiber lengths in sufficient quantity depends critically on the development of fiber splicing and coating restoration techniques. In support of this need we have continued efforts to develop high strength splices and coating techniques to protect these splices.
