Linear polarization in birefringent multimode fibers

Abstract

We have found that birefringent multimode fibers preserve linear polarization. Such fibers offer the new possibility of building polarization-sensitive multimode components. These fibers should also find nonlinear optics applications such as group or phase matching in fiber Raman or parametric lasers.1
