Abstract

An important property of the light wave is its potential large bandwidth or high speed. With the progress of single-mode fiber technology much attention is being paid to this property. Recently several high-speed guided-wave modulator/switches have been demonstrated with a bandwidth of several gigahertz.1-3 in this paper, design problems with high-speed optical guided-wave components are discussed.
