Abstract
Under direct modulation, diode lasers exhibit relaxation oscillations (RO), which prevent their use at very high data rates. These oscillations can be eliminated by injecting light from an external source,1 which is somewhat inconvenient. However, as we demonstrate, the external source may be integrated within the laser crystal so that ROs are completely suppressed.
