Abstract

Recent long-term static-fatigue data at 33°C and 90% relative humidity by Wang and Zupko1 for an ultraviolet-cured epoxyacrylate coating on fused-silica fibers showed a hitherto unobserved change in slope from -0.05 at times to failure <104 min to -0.13 at times >104 min. These authors were unable to state whether this phenomenon is an inherent fatigue characteristic of the glass or a result of an interaction of the glass and coating material.
