Abstract
As fiber quality improves, it becomes necessary to resolve smaller differences when measuring fiber parameters in order that the measurement provide useful feedback. More specifically, when measuring losses of a few dB/km, it is desirable to have accuracies of the order of 0.1 to 0.2 dB/km. To achieve this, it is necessary to take great care in all aspects of the measurement process to minimize all equipment- and operator-related sources of error.
