Hybrid Integrated Photonic Circuits Based on a Novel Surface Emitting Laser

Abstract

This paper reports a simple method for realizing a hybrid integrated photonic circuits. The hybrid integrated photonic circuit is based on a novel high-order surface gratings coupled surface emitting distributed feedback laser which not only retains the advantages of edge emitting lasers such as excellent single-mode property, high internal quantum efficiency and high output power, but also obtains other appealing characteristics, such as easy realization of the hybrid integration, simple fabrication process etc.
