Abstract

This paper presents a novel power-saving scheme using watchdog ONUs in redundant PON systems. A numerical simulation reveals that the effectiveness of the power saving of 17% in the transmitter-sleep mode, and 36% of the transmitter/receiver-sleep mode can be obtained respectively.
