Abstract

The signals obtained from dual-layer phase change optical disks were analyzed experimentally and theoretically putting emphases on reducing layer cross talk (LCT) and spherical aberration (SA). An analytical method to estimate LCT approximately was proposed, whose result turns out to be in good agreement with the experimental result. Based on this method and the analytical formula for SA, the solution for design of drives and disks for dual-layer optical disks is discussed for the system of blue laser light.
