Optoelectronic page-oriented database filter based on photonic VLSI technology

Abstract

We present a CMOS optoelectronic database filter for accessing page-oriented optical storage. This photonic VLSI chip includes a smart-pixel array that selects words matching a search criterion and control circuitry that interfaces the filter chip with an electronic host computer.
