Abstract

High Power Optical Amplifiers (HPOAs) are key components in high-bandwidth, freespace communication systems. Erbium/Ytterbium (ErYb) co-doped cladding-pumped technology provides high power and efficiency. Some design choices driven by requirements for high reliability are described.
