Abstract

Raman/EDFA hybrid amplifier systems are optimized in path-averaged power and the gain ratio; we consider the optical signal-to-noise ratio, waveform distortion, and double Rayleigh scattering. 40Gb/s transmission experiments verify the success of our optimization approach.
