Picosecond electro-optic switching time based on pre-pulse induced chirp filtering in semiconductor optical amplifiers

Abstract

Optical filtering of current induced chirp is proposed to obtain faster electro-optic SOA-based switches. A 5.4ps switching time was theoretically obtained for pre-pulsed-step current injection with filtering by a frequency-discriminator after the active device.
