Impact of Spectral Hole Burning on long haul WDM transmission system performance

Abstract

The effect of spectral hole burning (SHB) on the performance of long-haul WDM transmission systems was studied experimentally and numerically. We demonstrate that the SHB effect introduces a change to the gain shape that must be considered during system design.
