High-capacity and Long-distance WDM Transmission Technologies

Abstract

Recent progress of undersea cable systems using wavelength division multiplexing technology is discussed. Next generation technology, that is 160Gbit/s system capacity, is explained briefly. Possibility of further capacity increase based on this technology is also reviewed.
