Non-Mechanical Variable Attenuator Module Using Faraday Effect

Abstract

We have developed non-mechanical inline optical attenuator which employs a Faraday rotator, two magnets, and two birefringent wedges. The experimental results showed an attenuation range of 1.6-25 dB with a polarization dependence of <0.4 dB.
