Abstract

New 1.02-μm strained InGaAs pump laser diodes exhibit high coupling efficiency of above 65 % for laser-to-single mode fiber coupling with a single aspheric lens. A small vertical divergence angle of 17 degrees and a small divergence aspect ratio of 1.3 were obtained by using a new layer structure with low refractive index layers. A preliminary aging test reveals that they are as reliable as conventional strained InGaAs pump lasers. They also demonstrated a high single mode fiber coupling power of above 300 mW.
