Abstract
Probably the severest limitataion on the capacity and/or transmission distance of soliton communication systems is the timing jitter ('Gordon-Haus effect') which arises from an interaction with spontaneous emission noise [1]. Various schemes of optical filtering and synchronous modulation have been proposed to overcome this limit; their analysis has been highly mathematical [3] or has relied on time-consuming numerical simulation [4]. In no case has the effect of filtering, intensity modulation and phase modulation been calculated. This paper gives a straightforward and general derivation such 'soliton transmission control'.
