Abstract

Soliton data signals at 20 and 40 Gbit/s have been successfully transmitted over 2000 and 1000 km, respectively, by using erbium-doped fiber amplifiers. Bit error rates of below 1×10−10 were obtained with 223 - 1 pseudo random patterns. 40 Tbit/s·km is the highest value yet reported in a straightline soliton transmission experiment.
