Abstract

The erbium doped fiber amplifier(EDFA) offers high gain, high efficiency, low noise, low insertion loss, and polarization insensitive characteristics. These advantages have enabled considerable progress to be made in 1.55 µm telecommunication systems[l,2]. The importance of the 1.3 µm fiber amplifier was also recognized by analogy with the EDFA because a large amount of 1.3 µm telecommunication systems have already been installed.
