Abstract

Recently, many transmission experiments using Er-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) as in-line repeaters have been reported [1] [2]. To replace conventional optoelectronic regenerators with EDFA repeaters, supervisory (SV) functions must be established to provide in-service monitoring and fault location capability in EDFA transmission systems [3] [4].
