Analysis of Burst Mode Reception in 100 Gbit/s Coherent Passive Optical Networks

Abstract

We analyze the impact of clipping and quantization errors in a burst-mode coherent PON receiver. At an ENOB of about 5 bit, we achieve a dynamic range of 20 dB without any adaptive gain control.
