Abstract

The identification of a lasing threshold in micro- and nanodevices has been debated for a long time. Here we propose a definition based on the dynamics of the laser output and a simple technique for experimentally detecting its value for a mesoscale device. Predicted similarities in laser output forecast its usefulness for nanolasers.
