Abstract

We propose and demonstrate a direct method to observe surface solitons in vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) at room temperature. By modeling the interface between a saturable Kerr-type medium and a parabolic lossy waveguide, the formation and the existence of surface solitons are shown numerically.
