Observation of Noise Outburst in Mode-locked Fiber Lasers

Abstract

Intensity noise is characterized over all known mode-locking regimes. We observe sudden outburst of noise beyond a threshold pulse energy. This appears to be the first evidence of coupling of nonlinear effects to laser noise.
