Abstract
Wavelength conversion via quadratic optical nonlinearity in AlGaAs waveguiding devices will be presented. We have fabricated periodically inverted AlGaAs waveguides using the sublattice reversal epitaxy technique and succeeded in quasi-phase-matched second-harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation with reasonably high efficiencies. We have proposed a novel AlGaAs-based wavelength conversion device utilizing birefringence in a thin high-index-contrast waveguide.
