Nonlinear Biophotonic Crystal Effects in Multi-Photon Microscopy

Abstract

Highly-organized biological nano-structures behave as nonlinear bio-photonic crystals and modify their optical behavior in multi-photon microscopy through efficient second-harmonic-generation. These nonlinear-photonic-crystal-like optical activities in living cells is useful for investigating structure-function-relationship at a subcellular level.
