“Cascade-Raman” soliton compression with 30-fs, Terawatt pulses

Abstract

Theoretically, Raman-like soliton compression of mJ. 30-fs pnlses is predicted. Initial experiments demonstrate 2 times compression of 1.3 TW/cm2 pnlses under non-optimal conditions. The results agree closely with numerical simulations.
