Engineering the electromagnetic vacuum for controlling light with light in photonic crystals

Abstract

A simple waveguide-defect architecture is designed to engineer the electromagnetic vacuum for controlling light with light. The process is based upon the atomic population inversion of two-level atoms (quantum dots) coherently pumped by a laser.
