Abstract

Ultrahigh-speed all-optical wavelength conversion has been demonstrated using a rare-earth doped crystal as a proof of principle. The observed switching time is two orders of magnitude shorter than the carrier lifetime for on-resonance transitions. This demonstration shows a breakthrough in the T1 limitation of current switching technologies.
