Modulation instability in cw multilongitudinal-mode erbium-doped fiber ring lasers

Abstract

We show that the multimode instability and the subsequent linewidth broadening of a continuous-wave erbium-doped fiber ring laser operated in a multilongitudinal-mode regime can both be predicted by a modulation instability analysis.
