Transition towards dynamical parametric solitary waves

Abstract

Parametric solitary waves result from a balance between energy exchanges and group velocity differences between waves interacting through a parametric process. Apart from the group velocity differences, dispersion effects on the interacting waves have been systematically ignored in previous theoretical studies of parametric solitary waves [1-4], This omission is usually justified by the fact that the nonlinear effects take place over a length that is much shorter than the characteristic dispersion length of the interacting waves.
