Number of usable Principal Modes in a Mode Division Multiplexing transmission for different Multi-mode fibers

Abstract

We investigate the suitability of PMs for coherent MDM transmission as the number of eigenmodes increase in a MMF. We observe an exponential decay of usable PMs after reaching a local maximum.
