Abstract

This paper will discuss issues and solutions associated with the design and implementation of “multi-degree ROADM-based” ring and mesh optical networks. Compensation methods used to combat the effects of chromatic dispersion, PMD, and ASE noise will be discussed in reference to both 10 and 40 Gbps systems. The presentation will step through the design of a complex mesh network that utilizes a combination of two-degree ROADMs, multi-degree ROADMs, EDFA amplifiers, Raman amplifiers, PMD compensators, and chromatic dispersion compensators.
