Abstract

Shared mesh protection based on cross-connecting pre-deployed protection subconnections is well suited for the optical-bypass-enabled networks currently being deployed. This scheme poses a cost-versus-capacity tradeoff, which is investigated through studies on several realistic backbone networks.
