Automatic EDFA gain spectrum equalization using LPFGs on divided coil heaters

Abstract

We describe a dynamic erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) based on automatic feedback control of LPFG based active gain equalizing filters. With two LPFG mounted on a novel divided coil heater array, wide dynamic-range gain / power control for an EDFA was achieved with less than 0.8dB gain ripple, over 30 nm.
