Abstract
Today, carriers and OEMs are looking to cost-effectively manage the lifecycle of older platform technologies, which would enable them to focus on the unprecedented backlog of new-technology introductions. Very seldom have we seen a convergence of technology trends that result in the displacement and transition of networks in a ’perfect storm-like’ scenario - from VoIP and its impact on the circuit switching network, and GigE and its SDH and SONET lifecycle displacement - to a migration to the latest wireless standards of CDMA and GSM be they data or voice.
